Desktop vs. Cloud Computing
Desktop computing requires you
to have all of your computers, disks, networking
and Internet access hardware, printers and scanners located physically
in your office. Application software is installed
locally. You or your information technology (IT)
department are responsible for the installation,
maintenance, repair, backup and upgrades to all
hardware and software that you use to run your
business. You must also have systems in place to
keep your data secure.
The costs of providing this infrastructure can be
hard to measure. Sure, you can plan ahead for a new
computer that you want next year, but what is the
cost of a disk or server failure tomorrow? And don't
forget about the time that you will spend installing
the new computer and
recovering your files from yesterday's backup. You
did remember to backup your data files yesterday,
right?
With Cloud computing,
you reduce your local computing requirements to a
computer with Internet access, printers and
scanners. ProTracker Software, through its
partnership with
IVDesk, provides remote
hosted services for ProTracker Advantage. Our team
is
responsible for installation and maintenance of the
remote hardware that you use. We keep your
ProTracker Advantage application up-to-date and
perform nightly backups of your database and client
files.
You know the costs of hosted services up front and
can plan for them. After the startup fee, you are
charged a monthly subscription rate for the
hardware, software and services provided. There are
no sudden surprises for hardware replacements and
you can spend your time doing what you do best,
servicing your clients.
